Frequently Asked Questions
How is age calculated exactly?
Age is calculated by subtracting the birth date from the current date (or a specified date), accounting for varying month lengths and leap years. Our calculator gives you exact years, months, and remaining days.
Can I calculate age as of a specific date?
Yes. The 'Age As Of' field lets you calculate age at any past or future date — useful for legal age verification, insurance calculations, or retirement planning.
What is the reading time calculation based on?
Age in hours is computed as total days × 24. Minutes is hours × 60.
How accurate is the next birthday calculation?
The calculator finds the next occurrence of your birth day and month. If today is your birthday, it shows your next birthday (one year ahead). Leap day birthdays (Feb 29) are handled using Feb 28 in non-leap years.
Why do legal documents calculate age differently?
Most legal systems count age in completed years. A person born on December 31 is legally considered to become 18 on December 31 of the relevant year, regardless of the time of day. Our calculator uses the same convention.
